Plenty of people spent September braced for a big Google core update. It hasn't come. A spam update arrived at the last minute instead, but the more interesting changes this month weren't algorithm updates at all.

Query volume has more than doubled every quarter since launch, and last quarter the total number of searches hit an all-time high.
